The Gelfand-Kirillov transcendence degree is a classical example of the non-commutative analogs of the notion of transcendence degree for commutative algebras considered in the literature. In general the Gelfand-Kirillov transcendence degree is difficult to compute, and it is not known whether certain reasonable basic properties hold for it or not. On the other hand, these properties are known to hold for the lower transcendence degree introduced by \textit{J. J. Zhang} [Adv. Math. 139, 157--193 (1998; Zbl 0924.16015)]. An algebra is called \textit{\(LD\)-stable} if its lower transcendence degree coincides with its Gelfand-Kirillov dimension. For an \(LD\)-stable prime Goldie algebra the lower transcendence degree agrees with the Gelfand-Krillov transcendence degree. The present paper extends the list of known \(LD\)-stable algebras by proving the \(LD\)-stability of rings of differential operators of affine domains, universal enveloping algebras of finite dimensional Lie superalgebras, symplectic reflection algebras and their spherical subalgebras, finite \(W\)-algebras of type \(A\), certain generalized Weyl algebras, some quantum groups. The lower transcendence degree of these algebras is also computed. Moreover, it is shown that the lower transcendence degree behaves well with respect to taking the subring of invariants of a finite group, and with respect to Morita equivalence.
