On a compact Kähler manifold \(M\), a cohomology class \([\alpha]\) on \(M\) is said to be big if it contains a Kähler current. For a big class \([\alpha]\), \textit{S. Boucksom} [Int. J. Math. 13, No. 10, 1043--1063 (2002; Zbl 1101.14008)] defined the volume of \([\alpha]\) as \[ \mathrm{Vol}([\alpha])=\sup_T\int_M T^n_{\mathrm{ac}} \] where the supremum is over all Kähler currents \(T\) in the class \([\alpha]\) and \(T_{\mathrm{ac}}\) denotes the absolutely continuous part of \(T\) in the Lebesgue decomposition. It was conjectured by \textit{J.-P. Demailly} [Milan J. Math. 78, No. 1, 265--277 (2010; Zbl 1205.32017)] that \[\mathrm{Vol}([\alpha])=\inf_{u\in C^\infty(M)}\int_{M(\alpha+dd^c u,0)} (\alpha+dd^c u)^n \] where \(M(\alpha+dd^c u,0)\) denotes the set of all points \(x\) where \(\alpha+dd^c u\geq 0\). The conjecture is now known to be true when \([\alpha]\) is nef or when \(M\) is projective by the works of \textit{S. Boucksom} et al. [J. Algebr. Geom. 22, No. 2, 201--248 (2013; Zbl 1267.32017)] and \textit{D. W. Nyström} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 32, No. 3, 675--689 (2019; Zbl 1429.32031)]. In this work, the authors consider the problem in the non-Kähler setting and propose a Hermitian analogue of Demailly's conjecture for nef classes on a Hermitian manifold. They prove that if the class \([\alpha]\) contains a semi-positive representative or \(M\) admits a Hermitian metric \(\omega\) with \(dd^c\omega=dd^c \omega^2=0\), then \[ \mathrm{Vol}([\alpha])=\inf_{u\in C^\infty(M)}\int_{M(\alpha+dd^c u,0)} (\alpha+dd^c u)^n \] holds.
