In this paper the authors introduce a method for finding a quantum determinant associated to a rigid solution of the braid equation \((V, c)\). The main results in this direction give sufficient conditions to ensure the existence of a normal group-like element \(D\) of the coquasitriangular bialgebra \(A(c)\) in the Faddeev-Reshetikhin-Takhtajan construction [\textit{N. Yu. Reshetikhin} et al., Leningr. Math. J. 1, No. 1, 193--225 (1990; Zbl 0715.17015); translation from Algebra Anal. 1, No. 1, 178--206 (1989)], such that, under certain conditions, the localization on \(D\) is a Hopf algebra denoted \(H(c)\). It is shown that \(H(c)\) is isomorphic to the universal coquasitriangular Hopf algebra associated to \((V, c)\) by \textit{P. Schauenburg} [On coquasitriangular Hopf algebras and the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. München: R. Fischer (1992; Zbl 0841.16039)]. The proof is based on properties of the Nichols algebra associated to \((V, c)\). The mentioned method provides, for a given Nichols algebra \(\mathcal B\), a Hopf algebra \(H\) such that \(\mathcal B\) is a braided Hopf algebra in the braided category of left \(H\)-comodules. It also gives families of Hopf algebras generated by simple subcoalgebras.
