The Strichartz estimates on a model 2D convex domain are investigated. The domain is \(\Omega=\mathbb{R}^+\times \mathbb{R}^{d-1}\) with metric \(g=dx^2+(1+x)^{-1}dy^2\), which is also known as the Friedlander model domain. Here the Strichartz estimates refer to a class of (local in time) space-time estimates without loss of regularity of the form \(\|u\|_{L^q_t ([0, t_0]; L^r(\Omega))}\le C(\|u(0)\|_{H^s(\Omega)}+\|u_t(0)\|_{H^{s-1}(\Omega)})\) with \(s=d (1/2-1/r)-1/q\), for solutions to the wave equation \((\partial_t^2-\Delta_g) u=0\) with data \((u(0), u_t(0))\) and homogeneous Dirichlet/Neumann boundary conditions. The standard Strichartz estimates on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) are known to hold when \(2/q\le (d-1)(1/2-1/r)\) and \(q>2\). In a previous work [Ann. of Math. (2), 180, No. 1, 323--380 (2014; Zbl 1310.35151)], the authors obtained dispersive estimate as well as the Strichartz estimates for \((q,r)\) with \(1/q\le ((d-1)/2-1/4)(1/2-1/r)\) and \(q>2\). In this work, the authors prove a new necessary condition for the Strichartz estimates when \(d=2\), i.e., \(1/q\le (1/2-1/10)(1/2-1/r)\), building upon on the parametrix construction from the earlier work.
