In this paper approaches to construct wavelets on intervals derived from arbitrary compactly supported biorthogonal multiwavelets are proposed. The first approach is based on the classical transition from scalar wavelets to multiwavelets, the second approach is direct without explicitly involving any dual refinable functions and dual multiwavelets. It is shown that boundary orthogonal wavelets cannot have any vanishing moments in one case. For biorthogonal wavelets, the primal wavelets can have short supports, while their dual wavelets have much longer supports. This makes construction of locally supported biorthogonal wavelets on an interval more complicated than orthogonal wavelets on an interval. In comparison with the classical approach, the here proposed direct approach makes the construction of locally supported (multi)wavelets on intervals more easy. Direct approach is also more general. The key properties of wavelets are taken into account. These properties are connected with vanishing moments of wavelets to construct wavelets on intervals on the base of arbitrary compactly supported biorthogonal multiwavelets. Some examples of orthogonal and biorthogonal multiwavelets on intervals are provided.
