The paper under review studies non-characteristic domains of the Heisenberg group \(\mathbb{H}^1\). The setting is provided by the open and smoothly bounded domains of the upper half plane \(\mathbb{R}^2_{+}: U\subset \mathbb{R}^2_{+}:=\{(x, y)\in \mathbb{R}^2; y>0\}\) and their inverse images: \(\Omega :=\{(z, t)\in \mathbb{H}^1; w=t+i\vert z\vert ^2\in U\}=w^{-1}(U)\). The main results are: 1) the set \(\Omega \) is diffeomorphic to the product \(U\times S^1\); 2) if \(\Omega \) is an open and smoothly bounded domain of \(\mathbb{H}^1\) corresponding to \(U\) as above and \(\partial U\) has no intersection with the line \(\{y=0\}\) then \(\Omega \) is a non-characteristic domain; 3) the open and smoothly bounded domains of \(\mathbb{H}^1\) which are diffeomorphic to the open solid torus of \(\mathbb{H}^1\) having the center of the group as revolution axis are non-characteristic.
