In [Contemp. Math. 229, 49--79 (1998; Zbl 0926.16028)], \textit{K. A. Brown} gave some important observations on the structure of Noetherian Hopf algebras and posed a series of open questions which been proved to be a good guide for follow-up research in this direction. Among of them, one of big influence, now called the Brown-Goodearl conjecture, states that every Noetherian Hopf algebra must have finite injective dimension, that is, it is Gorenstein. An affirmative answer to this question has many consequences, especially in the study of the ring-theoretic properties of Noetherian Hopf algebras. We need to remark that if a Noetherian Hopf algebra satisfies a polynomial identity (this is actually the original form of the conjecture), then this conjecture was shown to be true by \textit{Q. S. Wu} and \textit{J. J. Zhang} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 355, No. 3, 1043--1066 (2003; Zbl 1019.16028)]. In this paper, the authors show that the conjecture is true for the class of module-finite weak Hopf algebras, that is, a weak Hopf algebra which is a finitely generated module over its affine center. The reviewer thinks that the authors work can be lifted to categorical level if this category possess some basic properties.
