The author focuses on branched manifolds for three unimodal maps introduced by \textit{O. E. Rössler} [Ann. New York Acad. Sci. 316, 376--392 (1979; Zbl 0437.76055)]: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] The folded (logistic) map \(x_{n+1}=\mu - x_{n}^{2}\); \item[(ii)] The torn (Lorenz) map \(x_{n+1}=\mu - |x_{n}|^{1/2}\); \item[(iii)] The torn away map \[ x_{n+1}=\begin{cases} \mu - |x_{n}|^{1/2}, \;\; & x_{n}<0, \\ -\mu + |x_{n}|^{1/2}, \;\; & x_{n}\geq0. \end{cases} \] \end{itemize} The main attention is given to chaotic attractors characterized by branched manifolds made of two strips. The author mentions that the relevant difference between these maps is in their bifurcation diagram. He points out that the different possibilities for the branched manifolds which may arise from unimodal maps are not exhaustively listed in the literature. Moreover, he describes the case of the ``reverse'' horseshoe map. A complete reverse folded map is exemplified in two Lorenz-like systems presenting an additive global torsion.
