In a recent paper the author gave an answer to the Hecke basis problem for a prime \(N\) [Comment. Math. Univ. St. Pauli 67, No. 1, 65--81 (2019; Zbl 1443.11047)]. In this paper these results are generalized to the case of a square-free positive integer \(N\).
