Elliott-Montgomery-Vaughan type large sieve inequalities are bounds for quantities like \[ \sum_{\phi \in \Phi} \left|\sum_{P < p \leq 2P} b_p \frac{\lambda_\phi(p)}{p} \right|, \] where \(\lambda_\phi\) are some sort of harmonics. Here the authors consider the case when \(\Phi\) is an orthogonal basis consisting of Hecke-Maass cusp forms \(\phi\) for \(\mathrm{SL}(n, \mathbb{R})\) and \(\lambda_\phi(p) = A_\phi(p, \dots, p)\) are the corresponding Fourier coefficients. This generalises previous results concerning cases \(n =2, 3\). When \(n \geq 3\), the Hecke relations and trace formulas used in the case \(n=2\) get complicated but \textit{X. Xiao} and \textit{Z. Xu} [Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 35, No. 6, 1693--1714 (2019; Zbl 1459.11116)] managed to recently deal with the case \(n=3\). Here the authors handle all cases \(n \geq 3\) using the authomorphic Plancherel density theorem from [\textit{J. Matz} and \textit{N. Templier}, Algebra Number Theory 15, No. 6, 1343--1428 (2021; Zbl 1480.11061))] and properties of Schur's polynomials instead of Hecke relations. The authors also provide applications of their large sieve result to the analogue of Linnik's problem for \(\mathrm{GL}(n, \mathbb{R})\), to sign changes of the Fourier coefficients \(A_\phi\), and to the value distribution of \(L(1, \phi)\).
