Local surjectivity of a nonlinear map (equivalently, local solvability of a nonlinear equation) is usually achieved by imposing a differentiability condition with right-invertible derivative at a point. However, many more sophisticated methods have been considered in the literature, like Nash-Moser equilibrium points [\textit{J. F. Nash}, Usp. Mat. Nauk 26, No. 4(160), 173--216 (1971; Zbl 0217.47504); translation of Ann. Math. (2) 63, 20--63 (1956)], Galerkin approximations [\textit{M. Berti} et al., Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Anal. Non Linéaire 27, No. 1, 377--399 (2010; Zbl 1203.47038)], or perturbation arguments. In the present paper, the authors, two masters of nonlinear functional analysis and variational calculus, solve another perturbation problem of the form \(F_\varepsilon(u)=v\) around \(F_\varepsilon(0)=0\), with assumptions weaker than those made, e.g., by \textit{L. Hörmander} [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 62, 1--52 (1976; Zbl 0331.35020)]. An application to a problem previously studied by \textit{B. Texier} and \textit{K. Zumbrun} [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Anal. Non Linéaire 28, No. 4, 499--527 (2011; Zbl 1237.47066)] is also included.
