The author shows that it is consistent relative to large cardinals that \(\omega_{\omega^2}\) is a strong limit and Shelah's approachable ideal \(I[\sigma]\) is proper for each regular cardinal \(\sigma\) with \(\omega_2 \leq \sigma \leq \omega_{\omega^2 + 3}\).
