We recall that a group \(G\) is locally cyclic if and only if every finitely generated subgroup of \(G\) is cyclic. What can we say about the structure of \(G\) if \(G\) is the product of two subgroups \(A\) and \(B\) that are both locally cyclic? This is known in the case where \(A\) and \(B\) are torsion-free, and the present paper considers the remaining case, where at least one of \(A\) and \(B\) is periodic. The authors give extensive background on related questions and also explain applications of their results. For example, they extend a result by Huppert and prove that a product of finitely many pairwise permutable periodic locally cyclic groups is locally supersoluble.
