The authors introduce the concept of finite approximative sequence which is obtained by the main construction in the sense of \textit{M. Alonso-Morón} et al. [Physica D 237, No. 23, 3109--3122 (2008; Zbl 1165.54005)]. It is an inverse sequence of finite spaces and continuous maps \(\{U_{2\varepsilon_n}(A_n), p_{n, n+1}\}\), where \(\{\varepsilon_n\}_{n\in\mathbb{N}}\) is a decreasing sequence of positive real numbers converging to zero, satisfying some extra conditions, in particular each \(A_n\) is a finite \(\varepsilon_n\)-approximation of \(X\), and each \(U_{2\varepsilon_n}(A_n)\) is a subspace of \(2^X\) with the upper semifinite topology consisting of all \(C\in 2^{A_n}\) with diameter less than \(2\varepsilon_n\). The main construction is recalled in a slightly different way and its existence is shown here for every compact metric space \(X\). The main result of the paper states: the inverse limit of a finite approximative sequence of a compact metric space \(X\), \(\mathscr{X} = \underset{\leftarrow}{\lim} \{U_{2\varepsilon_n}(A_n), p_{n, n+1}\}\), contains a subspace \(\mathscr{X}^\ast\) homeomorphic to \(X\) which is a strong deformation retract of \(\mathscr{X}\). The authors then use the Alexandroff-McCord correspondence to obtain an inverse sequence of polyhedra \(\{|\mathscr{K}(U_{2\varepsilon_n}(A_n))|, |\mathscr{K}(p_{n, n+1})|\}\), called the polyhedral approximative sequence, from the finite approximative sequence defined by the man construction. They present an alternative way, called inverse persistence, to obtain persistence modules from the polyhedral approximative sequences.
