The authors study the compressible problem created by the impingement of a subsonic axially symmetric jet emerging from a semi-infinitely long nozzle on a solid curved wall. The flow is steady, irrotational, isentropic, polytropic, inviscid, axially symmetric, and is governed by the 2D Euler system. The boundary conditions are that of nonpermeability. Both the nozzle and the wall are curved and smooth in the \(C^{2,\alpha}\) sense. The authors show the existence of a critical mass flux, so that for lower values, a unique smooth subsonic jet exists. The free boundary of this jet detaches from the edge of the nozzle smoothly. The asymptotic behaviour of the jet and its surface is described. The well-posedness of the compressible axially symmetric impinging jet is established.
