A previous article [\textit{F. O. Goncharov} and \textit{R. G. Novikov}, ``An analog of Chang inversion formula for weighted Radon transforms in multidimensions'', Eurasian J. Math. Comput. Appl. 4, No. 2, 23--32 (2016)] proposed a reconstruction algorithm for weighted ray transforms in 3D. The approach is based on converting the data (integrals along lines) into data for a weighted Radon transform (integrals over planes). This could be considered as a preprocessing procedure, which is then followed by any preferred reconstruction algorithm for the new data. In a series of numerical tests on modelized and real SPECT data it is demonstrated that this procedure can significantly reduce the impact of noise on reconstructions.
