The paper studies two different topics: \begin{enumerate} \item the distribution of Petersson norms of cusp forms of full level, with integer coefficients and varying weight; \item the distrubution of supremum norms on compact subsets of the complex plane of polynomials with integer coefficients and varying degree (and more general rational functions on curves). \end{enumerate} Both subjects are approached via Arakelov geometry, as instances of the problem of studying norms of sections of powers of certain metrized line bundles. The first topic is studied in section 3. Holomorphic modular forms with integer coefficients, of level \(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})\) and weight \(12k\), are viewed as sections of the \(k\)-th power of a metrized line bundle on \(\mathbb{P}^1_\mathbb{Z}\) [\textit{U. Kühn}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 534, 209--236 (2001; Zbl 1084.14028)]. The authors study the limit, as \(k\) goes to infinity, of certain measures obtained from the naive adelic successive maxima of the lattice of cusp forms (metrized by the Petersson norm), cf. Theorem 3.2.2. In section 4, given a couple \((X, L)\) consisting of a projective variety over a number field and a big metrized line bundle, the authors study the height of non-zero sections of powers of \(L\). An upper bound for this height is given in Proposition 4.1.2 in terms of a global Chebyshev transform introduced by the authors, a sum of local Chebyshev transforms defined on the Okounkov body of \(L\). These transforms are explicitly computed in some cases; applying their results to the couple \((\mathbb{P}^1_\mathbb{Q}, \mathcal{O}(1))\), the authors obtain bounds on supremum norms of polynomials with integer coefficients on certain discs (Example 4.3.2). These improve general, classical estimates by \emph{M. Fekete} [Math. Z. 17, 228--249 (1923; JFM 49.0047.01)]. Sections 5 and 6 study respectively zeros of sections of powers of a metrized line bundle with at least a given height, and applications to adelic capacity theory.
