The authors introduce the class of \(\alpha\)-firmly nonexpansive and the class of quasi \(\alpha\)-firmly nonexpansive operators in \(r\)-uniformly convex Banach spaces, extending the classic notion from Hilbert spaces. They prove that compositions and convex combinations of (quasi) \(\alpha\)-firmly nonexpansive operators still satisfy these properties. Another important notion shared by the mappings dealt with in this paper is the asymptotic regularity, which leads the authors to extend some algorithms to approximate the fixed point set of a nonexpansive and quasi \(\alpha\)-firmly nonexpansive mapping within the framework of \(r\)-uniformly convex Banach spaces. The authors also show some different contexts where their techniques can be applied, related mainly to neural networks, semigroup theory, and contractive projections in \(L_p\).
