The Navier-Stokes equations for a rotating incompressible fluid are considered in the domain \({\mathbb R}^2\times \mathbb T\). The case when the frequency \(\Omega\) of the rotation around the ``vertical'' vector in \(\mathbb T\) is large is considered. The existence of global-in-time solutions is shown in the critical scaling-invariant spaces, and their asymptotics when \(|\Omega|\to\infty\) is identified as some solutions of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
