This paper proposes a despeckling approach for medical ultrasound images. This Gabor-based anisotropic diffusion coupled with the lattice Boltzmann method (GAD-LBM) uses the lattice Boltzmann method to quickly solve the partial differential equation of an anisotropic diffusion model embedded with the Gabor edge detector. In numerical experiments on synthetic and clinical ultrasound images, GAD-LBM was superior to nine other methods in speckle suppression and detail preservation. It was also faster than the GAD method with a finite difference PDE solver, by factors between 20 and 90.
