The QK/HK-correspondence and the HK/QK-correspondence relate quaternionic Kähler manifolds to hyper-Kähler manifolds of the same dimension. It is well known that to every quaternionic manifold \(M\) one can associate an \(\mathbb H^*/ \{ \pm 1\}\)-bundle over \(M\) and a hypercomplex structure on the total space of the bundle. By using a \(\mathbb H^*/ \{ \pm 1\}\)-bundle, endowed with a one-parameter family of almost hypercomplex structures (depending on a quaternionic connection), in the paper the authors generalize the QK/HK-correspondence, showing a construction of a hypercomplex manifold starting from a quaternionic manifold with a \(\mathrm{U}(1)\)-action. Applying this construction, they obtain a compact homogeneous hypercomplex manifold which does not admit any hyper-Kähler structure, proving that their quaternionic/hypercomplex-correspondence yields examples which cannot appear in the QK/HK-correspondence.
