The study of vanishing coefficients in infinite product expansions can be traced back to \textit{B. Richmond} and \textit{G. Szekeres} [Acta Sci. Math. (Szeged) 40, 347--369 (1978; Zbl 0397.10046)]. They also used asymptotic results to obtain positivity (resp. negativity) results for certain coefficients in the asymptotic sense. For more general results, see \textit{G. E. Andrews} and \textit{D. M. Bressoud} [J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 27, 199--202 (1979; Zbl 0397.10047)]; \textit{K. Alladi} and \textit{B. Gordon} [Contemp. Math. 166, 129--139 (1994; Zbl 0809.33009)]. Recently, \textit{M. D. Hirschhorn} [Ramanujan J. 49, 451--463 (2019; Zbl 1460.11059)]; \textit{J. G. McLaughlin} [J. Aust. Math. Soc. 98, 69--77 (2015; Zbl 1318.33029)], and \textit{D. Tang} [Int. J. Number Theory 15, 763--773 (2019; Zbl 1459.11117)] studied vanishing Taylor coefficients of certain infinite products. Tang [loc. cit.] conjectured some inequalities for certain coefficients. In the paper under review, the author uses the circle method for studying the asymptotic behaviour of the Taylor coefficients of the infinite product \[\prod_{j=1}^J\left(\prod_{k\ge 1}\Big( 1 - q^{r_j+m_j(k-1)}\Big)\Big( 1 - q^{-r_j+m_jk}\Big)\right)^{\delta_j}\] for nonzero integers \(r_j, m_j,\) and \(\delta_j\) with \(1\le r_j < m_j \; (j=1, \ldots, J).\) The main result generalizes many known results including an asymptotic formula due to \textit{J. Lehner} [Duke Math. J. 8, 631--655 (1941; Zbl 0060.10102)] for the number of partitions of \(n\) into parts \(\equiv \pm 1\) mod 5. The author also confirms the inequalities conjectured by Tang [loc. cit.].
