Let \(V^{\mathbb{R}}\) be a real finite-dimensional vector space equipped with a distance function \(d\) and \(X\subset \mathbb {P}(V^{\mathbb{R}}\otimes \mathbb {R})\) a projective variety defined over \(\mathbb {R}\). A fundamental invariant of \(X\) and \(d\) is the Euclidean Distance Degree (or ED for short) introduced by \textit{J. Draisma} et al. [Found. Comput. Math. 16, No. 1, 99--149 (2016; Zbl 1370.51020)]. In this very nice paper the authors the asymptotic behavious of the classical degree and the ED of some Segre products and their dual varieties when the number of factors of the Segre goes to infinity (e.g. when all except one factor is \(\mathbb {P}^1\)), the case of all \(\mathbb{P}^1\)'s being classical. The authors analyzes the asymptotic of degrees of hyperderterminants, the dual hypersurfaces to Segre varieties. They give a geometric interpretation for the stabilization of the ED degrees of some Segre varieties. Their paper contains stabilization results for Segre products \(X\times Q_n\), \(X\) any projective variety, \(Q_n\subset \mathbb {P}^{n+1}\), the smooth quadric hypersurface.
