      The authors investigate properties of a solution \(u_{K,D}\) to the mixed boundary value problem \[-\Delta u = 1\ \text{in}\ D\setminus K,\ u=0\ \text{on}\ \partial K,\ \frac {\partial u}{\partial \nu}=0 \ \text{on}\ \partial D,\] where \(D\subset \mathbb{R}^m,\ m\ge 2\) with a finite Lebesgue measure \(|D|\) and \(K\subset D\) is compact non-polar with positive logarithmic capacity if \(m=2\) or with positive Newtonian capacity if \(m\ge 3\). The main result is the leading asymptotic behaviour as \(\varepsilon \downarrow 0\) of the torsion function \(u_{\varepsilon K,D}\) in terms of the first eigenvalue \(\lambda(\varepsilon K,D)\) of the Laplacian with corresponding mixed boundary conditions.
