\textit{K. Alniaçik} [Rev. Fac. Sci. Univ. Istanbul, Sér. A 44, 39--82 (1983; Zbl 0538.10031)] proved that if \(\zeta\) is a strong Liouville number, then \(F(\zeta)\) is a \(U_m\)-number for all rational function \(F(x)\) with coefficients in an \(m\)-degree number field. The authors of the present paper generalize the above result for a larger class of Liouville numbers, which in particular contain all strong Liouville numbers. They use the main result, e.g., for the proof of existence of more \(U_m\)-numbers. In the proof, inequalities for the heights of polynomials (due to [\textit{O. S. Icen}, Rev. Fac. Sci. Univ. Istanbul, Sér. A 35, 139--166 (1972; Zbl 0307.10037); Rev. Fac. Sci. Univ. Istanbul, Sér. A 36, 53--87 (1974; Zbl 0307.10036)], as well as [\textit{M. Waldschmidt}, Diophantine approximation on linear algebraic groups. Transcendence properties of the exponential function in several variables. Ser. 13, 351--354 (1958; Zbl 0082.04001)]) are used.
