Let \(G\) be a finite simple graph and \(J=I_3(G)\) the cubic path ideal of \(G\), that is the ideal generate by all the paths in \(G\) of length \(2\). The authors give a complete characterization of the cases when the equality of the symbolic and ordinary powers of \(J\) occurs. Their characterization is expressed in terms of the combinatorics of the graph \(G\).
