The monograph under review deals with the study of problems arising in the analysis of microscopic models of the motion of suspension from the point of view of homogenization theory. The motion of suspensions is the motion of mixtures of a viscous incompressible fluid with small solid particles that can interact with each other through forces of non-hydrodynamic origin. The main goal is the derivation of closed homogenized equations that describe the asymptotic behavior of solutions when the diameters of the particles and the distances between neighboring particles tend to zero. The book is organized into eight chapters. Chapter 1 deals with the equations describing the motion of a suspension of solid small particles in a viscous incompressible fluid. In Chapter 2, the author derives homogenized equations for the suspension motion corresponding to frozen particles mode. In Chapter 3, the author computes the limiting viscosity tensor for structures close to periodic, at weak concentrations and for random distributions. Chapter 4 is devoted to the derivation of a closed system of equations of motion of a suspension of axisymmetric particles in a frozen particle mode. In Chapter 5, the author considers concentrated and weakly concentrated suspensions of polarized particles in an external electric field. In Chapter 6, the author derives and studies the homogenized system of equations of motion of a viscous incompressible fluid perturbed by solid particles moving in it. Chapters 7 and 8 contain the study of small oscillations of mixtures of a viscous incompressible fluid and fine solid particles interacting through elastic forces. Finally, a bibliography with about 120 references concludes the volume. The monograph is well written and is one of the first books on suspensions from the point of view of homogenization theory. The book is recommended to graduate students and researchers in applied analysis, as well as to physicists and engineers interested in the analysis of complex fluids with microstructure.
