One says that an algebraic object \(A\) is finitely presented if there exists a finitely generated free object \(F\) and an epimorphism \(\pi: F \rightarrow A\) such that the kernel of \(\pi\) is finitely generated as a kernel. In the paper under review the following objects are considered: (i) groups, (ii) Lie algebras over a field \(K\), (iii) \(R\)-algebras where \(R\) is a ring, and (iv) more general rings. The paper is a review. It includes explanation of basic properties of finite presentation in groups, Lie algebras and rings. Both it contains discussion of recent results such as ``examples of Stallings and of Roos on coherence and a recent theorem of Alahmadi and Alsulami on Morita invariance.''
