Let \(G\) be a connected reductive group over \(\mathbb R\). Let \(P\), \(P^-\subset G\) be opposite parabolics defined over \(\mathbb R\), with Levi \(L = P \cap P^-\). We have the functors of parabolic restriction (Jacquet functor) and induction w.r.t. \(P\), which form an adjunction \(\mathrm{pres}: \mathcal M(G(\mathbb R)) \leftrightarrows \mathcal M(L(\mathbb R)) : \mathrm{pind}\). Here, \(\mathcal M(\cdot)\) is the category of smooth Fréchet representations of moderate growth. The aim of this note is to analyze second adjointness in the context of tempered admissible representations. The author generalizes to a general group a recent result of Crisp and Higson for \(SL_2\). The author discusses Casselman's canonical pairing, and the relation to Bernstein morphisms. The main result is: There is a canonical adjunction \(\mathrm{pind}: \mathcal M^a(L(\mathbb R))_{\mathrm{temp}}\rightleftarrows \mathcal M^a(G(\mathbb R))_{\mathrm{temp}} :\mathrm{temppres}^-\). Here, \(\mathcal M^a(\cdot)_{\mathrm{temp}}\) is the category of admissible, smooth Fréchet tempered representations, \(\mathrm{temppres}^-\) is the biggest tempered quotient of the Jacquet functor for \(P^-\).
