    Let \(R\) be a ring, an element \(x\in R\) is called \textit{\(m\)-potent} if \(x^m=x\), where \(m\in \mathbb{Z^+}\). In the literature there are many results dedicated to rings having \(m\)-potent elements; see, for instance, the results due to Jacobson and Herstein: they, studying rings with \(m\)-potent elements (or commutators), obtained some conditions that force a ring to be commutative. In this paper the authors analyze the structure of a prime ring \(R\) with \(m\)-potent commutators involving skew derivations of \(R\). More precisely, let \(S\subseteq R\) and \(\rho\) a non-zero skew derivation of \(R\), such that \[[\rho(u),u]^m=[\rho(u),u]\] for all \(u\in S\), where \(1<m\in \mathbb{Z^+}\). The following statements hold: \begin{itemize} \item[1.] if \(S=[R,R]\), then \(R\) is commutative; \item[2.] if \(S\) is a Lie ideal, then \(S\subseteq Z(R)\). \end{itemize}
