Let \(G\) denote a simple simply connected complex algebraic group, \(B\) a Borel subgroup with unipotent radical \(N\) and \(T\) a maximal torus in \(B\) with Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}\), \({\mathfrak b}\), \({\mathfrak n}\) and \({\mathfrak t}\) respectively. Let \({\mathbb C}[N]\) be the coordinate ring. Let \(G^{\check{}}\) be the Langlands dual group and let \({\mathcal G}_r=G^{\check{}}((t))/G^{\check{}}[[t]]\) denote the affine Grassmanian of this group. Mirkovi\`c and Vilonen introduced a family of cycles in \({\mathcal G}_r\) which induce bases for irreducible representations of \(G\). In the paper under review, the authors study features of the MV bases, such as the biperfectness (Theorems 6.2, 5.4 and 7.11). They obtain a precise relation between MV cycles or bases and certain morphisms involving Duistermaat-Heckman measures and piecewise polynomial measures on \({\mathfrak t}_{\mathbb R}^*\) (Theorem 10.2). As a byproduct, they prove a conjecture of Muthiah on the equivariance with respect to actions of the Weyl group of a certain linear map between the zero-weight space and \({\mathbb C}({\mathfrak t}^*)\).
