In [\textit{D. S. Freed} and \textit{M. J. Hopkins}, Q. J. Math. 72, No. 1--2, 603--671 (2021; Zbl 1479.81060)] it is shown that the anomaly in M-theory arising from the Rarita-Schwinger field and from the Chern-Simons coupling cancels in the \(\mathrm{pin}^+\) case. In addition an algebraic theory of cubic forms is developed. For spin manifolds this anomaly cancellation was derived in \textit{E. Witten}, J. Geom. Phys. 22, No. 1, 1--13 (1997; Zbl 0908.53065). Starting from these results in this paper new cubic forms are introduced in the \(\textrm{spin}, \textrm{spin}^c, \textrm{spin}^{\omega_2}\) cases and in the orientable case on a 12-dimensional manifolds. Then a relation with \(\eta\)-invariants for manifolds with boundary, and with indices on certain 10-dimensional submanifolds in the \(\textrm{spin}^c\) and \( \textrm{spin}^{\omega_2}\) case are derived.
