Let \((\xi(x))_{x \in \mathbb{Z}}\) be an i.i.d.\ family of random variables with \(\mathbb{P}(\mathsf{ei} \leq \xi(0) \leq \mathsf{es}) < \infty\) for \(0 < \mathsf{ei} \leq \mathsf{es} < \infty\). The collection \((\xi(x))_{x \in \mathbb{Z}}\) forms the random environment. Given a realization \(\xi\) of the environment and an initial position \(x_0 \in \mathbb{Z}\), the branching random walk starts with one particle at \(x_0\) at time \(0\). Then particles move independently according to a continuous-time simple random walk with jump rate \(1\). While at site \(x\) a particle splits into two at rate \(\xi(x)\) independently of everything else. These particles then evolve independently according to the same mechanism. Denote by \(M_t\) the maximal position at time \(t\). The main result of the paper is the following: Fix \(L \in \mathbb{N}\), \(\eta \in [0,1/L)\) and \(\delta > 0\). Then there exists a deterministic subsequence \((t^{\delta,\eta}_k)_{k \in \mathbb{N}}\) of the lattice \(\mathbb{N}/L+\eta\) with \(\limsup_{k \to \infty} t^{\delta,\eta}_k / k \leq (1+\delta)/L\) so that \((M_{t^{\delta,\eta}_k} -E^{\xi}[M_{t^{\delta,\eta}_k}])_{k \in \mathbb{N}}\) is tight with respect to the annealed measure where \(E^{\xi}\) denotes expectation with respect to the quenched measure (given the environment \(\xi\)). The paper also contains a quenched counterpart of this result valid for almost every realization \(\xi\) of the environment in which the subsequence \((t^{\delta,\eta}_k)_{k \in \mathbb{N}}\) may depend on \(\xi\) and tightness with respect to the quenched measure \(P^\xi\) is asserted. The results are proved by an adaption of an argument by \textit{F. M. Dekking} and \textit{B. Host} [Probab. Theory Relat. Fields 90, No. 3, 403--426 (1991; Zbl 0734.60074)].
