Toroidal cluster algebras are deformations of cluster algebras with several quantum parameters. They appear in a natural way in the study of Grothendieck rings of representations of quantum affine algebras. In this setting the authors of this paper construct toroidal Grothendieck rings and prove that these are flat deformations of Grothendieck rings. Also they obtain that for a family of monoidal categories \(\mathscr{C}_1\) of simply-laced quantum affine algebras categorifying finite-type cluster algebras, the toroidal Grothendieck ring has a natural structure of a toroidal cluster algebra. The organization of this paper is the following: In the second section the authors give the setup for toroidal cluster algebras and they discuss several results for quantum cluster algebras which can be extended to the toroidal setting, for example, the Laurent phenomenon, the positivity and the invariance of the exchange graph. In the third section they consider the multi-parameter quantum tori which appear in the study of the representation theory of quantum affine algebras. The following section is devoted to give a brief review on finite-dimensional representations of quantum affine algebras and in the fifth section they introduce multi-parameter deformations of the Grothendieck ring of various monoidal categories. More concretely, they define a specific quotient of a multi-parameter quantum torus in which it is possible to construct the toroidal Grothendieck ring which is a flat deformation and they prove that the classes of fundamental representations provide a generating family of the toroidal Grothendieck ring. In the sixth section the authors establish that toroidal Grothendieck rings of certain monoidal categories \(\mathscr{C}_1\) are toroidal cluster algebras in all \(ADE\)-types (see Theorem 6.10). The seventh section is devoted to the study of the quasi-commutation relation for remarkable pairs in the multi-parameters quantum tori. In this topic they prove that it depends on a single parameter, even in the toroidal setting. Finally, in the last section, the authors discuss several questions that they would like to address in the future in relation to the main results of this work.
