In [Topology Appl. 71, No. 2, 119--124 (1996; Zbl 0855.22006)] \textit{A. Bouziad} proved that if \(X\) is a pointwise countably complete regular Baire space, \(Y\) is a topological space, \(Z\) is a completely regular space and \(f\colon X\times Y\to Z\) is a separately continuous mapping, then for each \(q\)-point \(b\) in \(Y\), the mapping \(f\) is strongly quasi-continuous at each point of \(X\times \{b\}\). To generalize the result of Bouziad, in the present paper the authors introduce a topological game for players \(\alpha\), \(\beta\) and a notion of \(\beta\)-unfavourable spaces. We say that a topological space \(X\) is called \(\beta\)-unfavourable if there is no winning strategy for the player \(\beta\) (who starts the game). In the paper the theorem of Bouziad is extended by showing that pointwise countable completeness of \(X\) can be replaced by assuming that \(X\) is \(\beta\)-unfavorable for the introduced game. Complete regularity of \(Z\) can be replaced by the regularity of \(Z\). If \(X\) is \(\beta\)-unfavorable for the game, \(Y\) has a dense set of \(q\)-points and \(Z\) is a regular game determined Stegall space, then every separately continuous mapping \(f\colon X\times Y\to Z\) is jointly continuous on a residual subset of \(X\times Y\).
