The paper deals with a large number of topological notions defined in terms of combinatorial properties of ideals on the set \(\omega\) of all natural numbers. For instance, a topological space \(X\) is said to be an \textit{ \(\mathcal{I}\)-space} (where \(\mathcal{I}\) is an ideal on \(\omega\)) if for every sequence \((x_n)_{n \in \omega}\) in \(X\) there exists a convergent subsequence \((x_n)_{n \in A}\) with \(A \notin \mathcal{I}\). The main notion investigated in the paper under review is that of \textit{differentially compact spaces}, and typical results of the paper are as follows: (1) It is shown that no Mrówka space is differentially compact. (2) Under the Continuum Hypothesis, an \(\mathcal{I}\)-space (where \(\mathcal{I}\) is a \(P^+\)-ideal) which is not differentially compact is constructed. (3) Under Martin's Axiom, an \(\mathcal{I}\)-space (where \(\mathcal{I}\) is an \(F_\sigma\) ideal) which is not differentially compact is constructed.
