The authors studies the uniqueness and backward uniqueness of the mean curvature flow for non-compact manifolds. They use energy argument to prove two uniqueness theorems for the mean curvature flow for non-compact complete Rieamannian manfiolds with postive injectivity radius lower bound. As a consequence a uniqueness result for the Ricci flow is also obtained. A backward uniqueness theorem is also proved for the mean curvature flow with dounded curvatures.
