This paper is concerning the Peterlin model: the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for the velocity evolution are coupled with the time evolution of the conformation tensor \(\mathbf{C}\). The connection with the well-known Oldroyd-B model is carefully explained. The results from \textit{M. Lukáčová-Medvid'ová} et al. [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 120, 154--170 (2015; Zbl 1320.35343); SIAM J. Math. Anal. 49, No. 4, 2950--2964 (2017; Zbl 1368.76007)] are used and extended from 2D to 3D. The new elements are a weak-strong uniqueness theorem, obtained by using the relative energy method and a regularity result concerning \(\mathbf{C}\). An approximation scheme based on the Galerkin method for the velocity is used. The main mathematical tools are: the Sobolev embedding, Aubin-Lions lemma, Fatou's lemma, classical Friedrichs mollification, Brezzi-Pitkäranta stabilization for the pressure, the Fixed-point iteration. A very intersting numerical example is given in the last part, for a particular initial data. Some future research directions in the field are also pointed.
