The paper deals with a symplectic category including the case where the geometric objects (e.g., symplectic manifolds) are of infinite dimension. A symplectic category, introduced by \textit{A. Weinstein} in [Port. Math. (N.S.) 67, No. 2, 261--278 (2010; Zbl 1193.53173)] to address quantization problems, is a category of symplectic manifolds whose morphisms are canonical relations between geometric objects. It is in general difficult to construct a symplectic category because there are some obstacles in taking composition of morphisms, even in the finite-dimensional case. In this paper, the authors consider a category in which the objects are weak symplectic vector spaces and the morphisms are given by split canonical relations, and discuss compositions and reductions for the morphims. They develop the theory of symplectic categories, putting their focus on the infinite-dimensional case. The paper consists of five sections. In Section 2, the preliminary material is provided. The authors show the main properties of coisotropic subspaces of topological vector spaces. Section 3 plays a central role in the paper. The authors discuss the composition and the reduction for split canonical relations. They prove that the composition of split canonical relations with a certain condition is again a split canonical relation. In Section 4 and Section 5 some useful examples are provided: the Section 4 contains two examples in which the compositions of canonical relations are not Lagrangian. Section 5 has an example from topological field theory. It is shown that the canonical relations arising in the Poisson sigma model are split.
