The authors present a novel cutFEM for interface problems which guarantees conservation of mass for stationary interfaces in both one and two dimensions. Additionally, the approach holds for moving interfaces in one dimension. The mass conservation is due to a clever choice of parameters when imposing the interface conditions weakly. The spatial discretization is, throughout, based on DG-elements. Numerical examples illustrate convergence rates in space of up to 4th order in 1d. The convergence in space is, for the stationary interface, matched in time by means of explicit time stepping such as the TVD Runge-Kutta method. In the case of a moving interface, the authors resort to using DG both in time and space since it is demonstrated that integration by parts in time is essential for the discrete conservation of mass. This, however, leads to an implicit method in time.
