The paper investigates the problem of norm retrieval by vectors and projections in the context of finite and countable dimensional real Hilbert space. In particular, the case of when hyperplanes do norm retrieval is studied. Moreover, some results about the nondensity of families are given; for example, the families of vectors which do norm retrieval in \(\ell^2\) are not dense in the infinite families of vectors in \(\ell^2\). It is proved also that if a Riesz basis does norm retrieval in \(\ell^2\), then it is an orthogonal sequence. The paper contains examples showing that the results are optimal.
