The author considers the Schrödinger operator on \(L^2(\mathbb R^3)\) \[H= \sum_{k=1}^N (-\Delta_k - \frac{Z}{x_k}) +\sum_{1\leq j<k\leq N}\frac{1}{|x_j -x_k|}, \quad x_i\in \mathbb R^3\] of an atom with \(N\) electrons and a nucleus with positive charge \(Z\). Given an eigenfunction \(\psi\) of \(H\), an optimal bound for the eigenvalues of the one-particle density matrix \[\gamma(x,y) = \int_{\mathbb R^{3N-3}}\overline{\psi(z,x)} \psi(z,y)dz, \quad x,y\in \mathbb R^3\] is shown. The technique involves the regularity properties of the eigenvalues, the theory of compact integral operators with kernel, and suitable estimates.
