For a Banach space \((X,\| \cdot \|)\) (dim \(X\) \(\geq 2\)). The skewness \(s(X)\) has been defined by \textit{S. Fitzpatrick} and \textit{B. Reznick} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 275, 587--597 (1983; Zbl 0515.46012)] as the supremum of \(\displaystyle \lim_{t \to 0^+} \frac{\| x + ty\| - \| y + tx\|} {t}\) when \(x\) and \(y\) range in the unit sphere of \(X\). In this paper the authors compute \(s(l_p - l_1)\) where \( l_p - l_1\) denotes the 2-dimensional Day-James space for \(1<p< \infty\). Moreover, they discuss some properties of \(s(l_p - l_1)\); in particular they show that \(\displaystyle s(l_p - l_1) < 2\rho_{l_p - l_1}(1)\) for every \(p\), \(\rho_X\) being the modulus of smoothness of \(X\).
