In this present work the authors consider lattices in \(d\)-dimensional space. For a lattice of full-rank \(L\) in \(\mathbb{R}^d\), they notate by \(L^+\), the semigroup of all vectors with nonnegative coordinates in \(L\), and refer to a basis \(X\) for the lattice \(L\) as positive if it is contained within \(L^+\). It is known that there are infinitely many such bases, with each base spanning a conical semigroup \(S(X)\) consisting of all nonnegative integer linear combinations of the vectors of \(X\). Every such conical semigroup \(S(X)\) is a sub-semigroup of \(L^+\). The authors investigate the distribution of the gaps of \(S(X)\) in \(L^+\), which are the points in \(L^+\backslash S(X)\). They describe some basic properties and counting estimates for these gaps. However, their main focus is on obtaining bounds for the restrictive successive minima of \(L^+\) and of \(L^+ \backslash S(X)\). The results are elegant and analogous of Minkowski's successive minima theorem and its recent generalizations. The results are subsequently applied to obtain bounds for the successive minima with respect to Weil heights of totally positive sub-semigroups of ideals in totally real number fields.
