Let \(e(t)=e^{2\pi it}\). For arbitrary positive integers \(p\) and \(q\), the Landsberg-Schaar identity asserts that \[ \frac{1}{\sqrt{p}}\sum_{x=0}^{p-1}e\left(\frac{q}{p}\,x^2\right)= \frac{e(1/8)}{\sqrt{2q}}\sum_{x=0}^{2q-1}e\left(-\frac{p}{4q}\,x^2\right). \] In the paper under review, the author provides a simple elementary proof of the above identity based on a discrete analogue of the Poisson summation formula.
