Let \(J\) be the Jordan plane over a field \(k\), that is, \(J\) is the \(k\)-algebra presented by two generators \(x\) and \(y\) subject to the relation \(xy-yx -\frac{1}{2}x^2\). In this paper the authors study some features of a Hopf algebra \(\mathcal D\), introduced by \textit{N. Andruskiewitsch} and \textit{H. Peña Pollastri} [J. Algebra Appl. 20, No. 1, Article ID 2140012, 26 p. (2021; Zbl 1484.16033)], which fits into an exact sequence of Hopf algebras \(k \to \mathcal O(\textbf{G}) \to \mathcal D \to U(\mathfrak{sl}_2(k)) \to k\), \(\mathcal O(\textbf{G})\) being the commutative Hopf algebra of regular functions on a certain algebraic group \(\textbf{G}\). Under the assumption that the characteristic of \(k\) is zero, the authors show that the finite-dimensional simple modules of \(\mathcal D\) are in bijective correspondence with those of \(\mathfrak{sl}_2(k)\). In addition they compute the center of \(\mathcal D\), which turns out to be a Kleinian singularity of type \(A_1\), and show that the localization of \(\mathcal D\) at the powers of two elements \(x\) and \(q\) is isomorphic to a localization of the Weyl algebra \(A_2(S)\), where \(S:=k[z^{\pm1}, z']\), with \(z\) and \(z'\) algebraically independent. As a consequence of the last result, \(\mathcal D\) satisfies the Gelfand-Kirillov property, namely, it is a noetherian domain whose skew field of fractions is isomorphic to a Weyl skew field.
