This paper is concerned with the class of groups all of whose proper subgroups of infinite special rank are finite-by-hypercentral (respectively hypercentral-by-finite). Since the stucture of locally graded groups of finite special rank is unknown, the authors restict attention to the class \(\mathfrak{X}\) of locally graded groups introduced by \textit{N. S. Chernikov} [Ukr. Math. J. 42, No. 7, 855--861 (1990; Zbl 0751.20030); translation from Ukr. Mat. Zh. 42, No. 7, 962--970 (1990)]. The authors prove the following two theorems: Theorem 2.6: Let \(G\) be an \(\mathfrak{X}\)-group of infinite special rank. If all proper subgroups of infinite special rank are finite-by-hypercentral, then all proper subgroups of \(G\) are finite-by-hypercentral. Theorem 3.6: Let \(G\) be an \(\mathfrak{X}\)-group of infinite special rank. If all proper subgroups of infinite special rank are hypercentral-by-finite then all proper subgroups of \(G\) are hypercentral-by-finite.
