    Let \(K\) be a compactly supported distribution such that \(K\in L^1_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{R}^n \setminus \{0\})\) and satisfies the conditions \(|\hat{K}(\xi) | \leq B(1+ |\xi|)^{-n\alpha/2}, ~ \xi \in\mathbb{R}^n \) and \( \int_{|x|> 2 |y|^{1-\theta}} |k(x-y) - K(x) | dx \leq B, |y|<b, \) for \(0 < \alpha < \theta <1\), where \(\hat{ ~}\) denotes the Fourier transform. \textit{P. Sjölin} [Ark. Mat. 14, 59--64 (1976; Zbl 0321.42017)] showed that the associated convolution operator \(T_K : f \to K \ast f\), defines a bounded operator on \(L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)\) if and only if \(|\frac{1}{p} - \frac{1}{2}| \leq \frac{n\alpha(1-\theta) + 2 \alpha }{2n\alpha(1-\theta) + 4 \theta }\). The main result in the paper under review is an \(H^1 \to L^1_s\) Sobolev version of the above result of Sjölin for strongly singular convolutions operators with compact support, in the context of graded Lie groups. Here the decay for the Fourier transform is expressed through the Rockland operator \(\mathcal{R}\) on \(G\). More precisely let \(G\) be a graded Lie group, with homogeneous dimension \(Q\) and Rockland operator \(\mathcal{R}\). For a compactly supported distribution \(K\in L^1_{\mathrm{loc}} (G \setminus \{ e\})\), that satisfy \begin{align*} \sup _{\pi \in \hat{G}} \| \hat{K} (\pi) (1+ \pi (\mathcal{R}))^{\frac{Q \alpha }{2}}\|_{op} &< \infty, \\ \sup_{0<R<b} \sup_{|y|<R} \int_{|x| > 2 R^{1-\theta}} | K (y^{-1}x) -K(x)| dx &< \infty, ~0< \alpha<\theta < 1, 0<b<1 \end{align*} the authors show that \(T_K: H^1(G) \to L^1_{-\chi}\) for \( \chi \geq Q(\theta -\alpha )/ [Q(1-\theta ) +2 ]\). Here \(L^1_s(G)\), for \(s \in\mathbb{R}\) is defined to be the closure of \(C_0^\infty(G)\) by the norm \(\| f\|_{L^1_s(G)}=\| (I + \mathcal{R}^{s/\nu} f)\|_{L^1(G)},\) where \( \nu\) is the degree of the invariant differential operator \(\mathcal{R}\). They also show the boundedness of \(T_K: L^1(G) \to L^{1, \infty}_{-\chi}\), the weak Sobolev space, for the above range of \(\chi\).
