The paper is interested in finite volume approximations of hyperbolic conservation laws using entropy stable schemes. A semidiscrete scheme that is entropy stable in the sense of Dafermos is constructed using a convex combination of an entropy conservative and an entropy dissipative flux. The semidiscrete scheme is shown to have nice properties like \(2p\) order of accuracy in smooth regions and the non-oscillatory behavior around shocks. The theoretical analysis is confirmed by a number of relevant numerical tests.
