This self-contained paper explains in detail what is tropicalization, what are singular values, and what does it mean to tropicalize the singular values of a matrix whose entries are Laurent series in \(t\). The main result is that the tropicalized single values converge to the valuations of the Smith normal form, which the authors call the invariant factor of the matrix. This result is naturally ``expected'' and adds singular values to the growing list of ``things that tropicalize nicely''.
